Yuen Kee Home Town Cafe 源記家鄉魚頭米 is a standout Chinese restaurant nestled in the vibrant neighborhood of Taman Paramount, Petaling Jaya. Renowned for its authentic dai chow (Chinese-style casual dining) with a strong emphasis on fish dishes, this local gem masterfully brings together traditional flavors and homely comfort in every bite.
Step inside, and you’ll immediately sense the warmth of a no-frills, welcoming environment where the focus is squarely on quality food and genuine service. The interior might be modest and cozy, but it creates the perfect backdrop for families and friends to gather over hearty, lovingly prepared meals.
The highlight here is undoubtedly their signature ginger, garlic, and chili padi steam fish—a dish that invites diners to choose their preferred whole fish, steamed to perfection with a fragrant, spicy medley that ignites the palate. Vivien Lim describes it as "damn good," and many patrons rave about the freshness and balance of the flavors. For those who relish variety, the yam basket filled with sweet and sour pork is an absolute must-try; its crispy sweetness perfectly complements the savory tang, creating a delightful textural play that lingers fondly in your memory.
Dim sum lovers will appreciate their tofu steamed to a soft, silky state in traditional dim sum containers, served steaming hot alongside fluffy rice—a simple yet deeply satisfying combination. Another perennial favorite is the curry bun, beloved for its rich, aromatic filling wrapped in a soft, warm dough that’s just begging to be savored bite after bite. Not to be missed are the squid balls—a deliciously springy treat that consistently earns rave reviews for their fresh seafood taste and perfect seasoning.
For noodle enthusiasts, Yuen Kee also offers a commendable fish head noodle and fish slice noodle, as noted by Ls Chan. While the fish slices are tender and comforting, the fried fish slice variation stands out with its crisp, flavorful coating. Other signature dishes like lala (clams) cooked in rich coconut curry, braised pork, and a varied selection of stir-fried vegetables showcase the kitchen’s versatility and commitment to authentic home-cooked flavors.
The staff at Yuen Kee complement the dining experience with attentive and friendly service, often warmly welcoming guests until closing time, even in the late evening. This close-knit, no-fuss restaurant truly thrives on repeat customers who appreciate its reliability and consistent quality. While parking can occasionally be a challenge in the bustling Taman Paramount district, the experience and food here make the effort worthwhile.
Whether you’re craving a comforting bowl of fish porridge, a light dim sum snack, or a full spread of classic fish-centered dishes that pack a punch of aromatics and spices, Yuen Kee Home Town Cafe is a dependable local treasure that delivers authentic flavors with heart and soul. It's a place where every dish tells a story steeped in tradition, inviting you back again and again for more.

PJ has many good Fish Head noodles outlets to choose from and this one in Taman Paramount is definitely one of the good ones. I ordered the Fish Slice noodles and it was just ok as the fish slices are soft. The Fried Fish slice on the other hand is very good and tasty - will definitely order this version next time.

Yam basket filled with sweet and sour pork was excellent, though we would have liked it better if they had sliced the pork smaller so each piece could have been crispier. The 4 vege mix likewise could have been improved by slicing the brinjal thinner so the sauce would coat it better. Lala in coconut curry was large and tasty, braised pork was fine but could have been more tender. Squid large, salted egg batter tasted fine but consistency could have been improved. Service excellent - the place was crowded but we were seated immediately even without a reservation, orders were taken promptly, food delivered fast and plates cleared fast. Comfortable dining. Extensive menu. Might consider revisiting for their efficiency though apart from the yam basket, I'd switch out all the dishes.

Always see this shop everytime I visit Paramount Garden. First time officially eat there. They close at 9pm but we arrived at 8.40pm and yet they still welcome us warmly. We didn't order alot but everything tasted good. More options available to try. Will definitely be back again.

Food is always consistently good here. My family & me enjoy the old school style of cooking. Staff are very attentive & friendly which explains why they have a loyal customer base. Restaurant interior is quite basic & not very spacious but comfortable nonetheless. Parking however, could be quite a hassle.
